059//365 “Two seasons, one day”

Average day in Stockhom this week: “Spring is here, wait, it’s snowing again. The sun is shining - but yet it’s still minus degrees.”

I love this climate, it makes for some pretty stunning scenery too!
057//365 “Spring is in full swing”

The sun is shining and many are claiming an early spring. Let’s just wait and see (and enjoy the glorious sunshine whilst it lasts!)
054//365 “Come out to play with the fisheye”

I seem to take a lot of images out of train windows these days, probably because I spend so much time commuting on them.

Today was no different, apart from the fact I took the opportunity to play around with my Fisheye lens at “Helenelund” station.

(The spaceship looking building in the background is a hotel, in case you we wondering!)
052//365 Peek at the setting sun

The sunsets in Stockholm seem to be incredibly stunning every single day. I really can’t get enough of them and often enjoy sneaking a peek out of the window come setting time!

046//365 “Fel tåg”

I’m really enjoying being able to take above ground transport these past weeks, especially when the scenery is so stunning and there are seats a plenty!

Today I decided to take my 365 image of the day out of the train window to celebrate this fact, which in turn distracted me from the fact that I had actually gotten on the wrong train, heading nun the wrong direction…

Fear he not though, four busses later and much course reading completed, I was back on track!
042//365 “Högvakten”

On a lunchtime meander around today I was lucky enough to happen upon the changing of the Royal Guards (Högvakten), outside Stockholm’s Royal Palace. According to the commentary, the Royal Guard traces its history back to the early 16th Century, and the unit has continuously guarded the Royal Palace in Stockholm since 1523.

Apparently the duty of forming a “Royal Guard” is bestowed upon all serving regiments but for the most part of the year the duty is being performed by the Lifeguards. I have no idea which regiment made up the guards today, but I enjoyed observing a few moments of Scandinavian pomp and circumstance!

040//365 “Worlds apart”

On a stroll home through the park after class today I came across a handful of people taking advantage of one of many outdoor ice rinks for a quick lunchtime skate. Moments later I encountered a whole school of children enjoying a little afternoon sledge.

When I was that age snow meant staying indoors during lunch and watching the janitor salt every surface in sight. There is such a different approach to health and safety here - one that considers that individuals have might have some sort of, I don’t know, common sense?
039//365 “Back to school”

Today maked day one of a one month long haul that is an intensive language course in Stockholm. This was the view I was greeted by front the window of my classroom. Non bad, huh?

003//365 “2012 takes flight” Taken at Stockholm’s Arlanda airport, whilst taking in a last few mouthfuls of caffine at one of my favourite coffee chains, before boarding for Frankfurt on my first flight of 2012.
